Green Flag - Biodiversity

We are working towards achieving our 5th Green Flag. The theme is biodiversity. As part of this we are trying to encourage more birds to visit our school. On Friday we made our own bird feed balls. First we softened some lard in the microwave. Then we mixed some bird seeds with the softened lard. Next we place a piece of string in our hand and wrapped a ball of bird feed mix around it. We then chilled the bird feed balls in the fridge. Finally we hung the balls up on high branches of trees (so the cats don't get them!) around the school.

Christmas Fair

We have been very busy making crafts for the Christmas Fair. We made lots of Christmas cards and some Christmas tree decorations.

Halloween

We really enjoyed Halloween in the Junior Room. Everyone dressed up and brought in €2. We donated all the money to Trick or Treat for Temple Street. We also did lots of English and Irish work on Halloween and we even had time to make some pumpkins!

Science Week

During Science Week we looked at forces. The Junior and Senior Infants looked at pushes and pulls. The 1st and 2nd class looked at friction. We enjoyed carrying out an experiment to see hoe friction effected the distance a car travelled.

You can find out more about friction by looking at the link below.

Shape Hunt

We have been exploring 2D shapes in maths. We went on a shape hunt to find out which shapes we could find around the school. We had great fun.

Busy September

We had a very busy start to the new school year. We enjoyed playing with all the lovely educational toys in our class and getting to know one another.

We are continuing to work on our football skills with Carmel our GAA coach. After a few rainy Mondays, we were happy to get back out to football fun in the sun!

Valentine's Hearts

We made Valentine's hearts out of clay. First we rolled out the clay. Next we used a love heart cutter to cut out our shape. Then we decorated our hearts with our pencils. When the hearts were dry we painted them and then coated them in PVA glue to make them nice and shiny.

Snow Scenes

With all the cold weather, the Junior Room painted some lovely snowy scenes. First we painted the body of our penguin. When that was dry we painted his tummy white and added in some snow. Finally we added a beak and some eyes. Our snow pictures turned out really well.
